Things to Know


WHERE IS THE CAMP AND WHAT DOES IT OFFER? Short Mountain Bible Camp is located just off state highway 146, about eight miles northeast of Woodbury, Tennessee. It offers facilities like cabins, bathhouses, a dining hall and well-equipped kitchen. Activities include: volleyball, basketball, ping-pong, arts and crafts, fishing, and canoeing. The 450- acre camp has many hiking trails (supervised) and provides a place for nature study and meditation. 

WHO IS CAMP FOR? The retreats are for any church group who would like attend.  All ages are welcome but we ask all younger children be accompanied by adults.  There is no permanent staff during retreats other than the caretaker.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST? The fee for the retreats is $700.00 plus a $100.00 refundable cleaning deposit= $800.00. $700.00 rents the camp for forty (40) people. Numbers over forty are charged $6.00 per person per night. [Example: 50 campers Friday night- 10(number over 40) x$6.00=$60.00, 42 campers Saturday night-2x$6.00=$12.00,   $60.00+$12.00=$72.00 is balance due].  A balance due is deducted from the refundable deposit or $100.00(refundable deposit) - $72.00(balance due) = $28.00 refund.

WHO WORKS THERE? SMBC is served by a dedicated Christian family- Tim & Tresa Carter.  All other staff should be provided by the group attending the retreat.

WHAT CAN I DO AT CAMP? Activities include daily Bible classes, singing, chapel and evening devotionals, basketball, volleyball, canoeing, softball, tetherball, fishing, hiking, ping-pong, and many more fun and exciting spiritual and recreational activities.

OTHER THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW. These items are not allowed at Short Mountain Bible Camp: Tobacco products, alcohol of any type, fireworks, radios, televisions, tape-players, CD players, personal stereos, personal video games, balloons, squirt guns, shaving cream, knives. 

Cabin raids are not allowed. Any camper caught damaging camp property will be held responsible for the cost of repairing the damage and sent home. This includes writing on cabin walls or intentionally breaking things. Campers are expected to conduct themselves in a Christian manner while at Short Mountain. 

Campers are not permitted to use the telephone. We ask that parents call only in the event of an emergency.


To receive Cleaning deposit refund

  • Clean, sweep, mop all cabins used.
  • Clean (toilets/sinks/showers), sweep, mop all bathroom facilities used (cabins, dining hall, craft house).
  • Clean, sweep, mop kitchen and dining hall (front and back).
  • Clean kitchen appliances (range, convection oven, griddles, sinks, counter tops, tables)
  • Wash all towels used in the washing machine provided.
  • Collect all trash (cabins, dining hall, gym, craft house, outdoors) and place in designated area per caretaker.


Please note-cleaning supplies for cleaning cabins, bathrooms, dining hall, and kitchen will be furnished by camp.

Please leave camp better than you found it.


Rules for Retreats



The board of directors has the following expectations for all persons using SMBC Please review these rules with your group when you arrive
  • Check in with the caretakers before settling into cabins.
  • Check in with the caretakers before leaving the camp area.
  • Christian conduct is expected at all times by children, teenagers, adults and visitors.
  • All worship activities should be in accordance with the teaching of the Bible.
  • No damaging camp property (fire extinguishers, beds, walls, bathrooms, picnic tables, tables, rocking chairs, windows, doors, mattresses, dispensers, trash containers, sporting equipment, etc.) Cost of damages will be deducted from the deposit and additional charges will be incurred if necessary.
  • No camper is allowed out of the common area without an adult.
  • No camper should enter a cave without an adult(25 and older), regardless of age of camper.
  • No girls are allowed in the boy’s cabins and no boys’ are allowed in the girls cabins.
  • Cabins available for retreats include – Magnolia Left and Right (26 beds on each side) Nurses / Cooks Cabin, and Office. Locked cabins are off limits.
  • All clothing should be modest and in compliance with camp dress code.
  • Cabin raids are not allowed
  • OFF LIMITS – These areas are secured for your safety; camp insurance is not liable for injury incurred in a secured/locked or off limits area.
    • Do not go to the maintenance building, the horse barn, horses, or pool.
    • If a building or area is locked/secured do not enter, this is trespassing and punishable by law.
  • Canoes are available but only with adult supervision (definition of an adult is 25 and older). Life jackets must be worn; they are located in the lake house. All life jackets and paddles must be returned to the lake house and canoes placed back in rack.
  • Sporting equipment must be returned to proper container before leaving the camp.
  • An adult must supervise all activities at the lake. The caretaker will send any person(s) back to camp if found at the lake without an adult (25 and older).
  • No food or drinks are allowed beyond the gate leading to the athletic field.
  • If a gate is closed, please close it after you pass through.
  • Do not throw rocks or sand.
  • Do not move beds or mattresses.
  • Four wheelers are prohibited.
  • No alcoholic beverages, tobacco products, or illegal drugs.
  • An adult (25 yrs or older) is responsible for checking all areas of the camp before leaving.
    • All lights and water must be turned off – please report any leaks to the caretaker –
    • Trash should be removed and placed in trash trailer
    • All areas used must be swept, mopped, etc.
Upon signing I agree to enforce the rules of SMBC during our retreat.
